A spectacular Japanese doily or cushion top embroidered with large butterflies on black satin circa 1920. Extremely fine polychrome silk thread embroidery in pastel stitch and throw stitch, in a cameo of gradated colors. Asian work for the Western market. Lined with cream cotton before embroidery. Excellent condition. Oval 75 cm and 60 cm in diameter.
