Baleine bodice of a Toile peinte des Indes à l'Anglaise dress, Louis XV period Circa 1770. The cotton canvas, with wavy scrolls of flowering stems, is mordanted and pinched with pastel or indigo. From an 18th-century Compagnie des Indes (France, England or Holland). Pointed cut front and back, with skirt and sleeves removed from the bodice. Front lacing with handmade eyelets. Very slight yellowing, but fabric preserved. A rare piece with no equivalent in the collections listed. Good condition in terms of color and conservation. Height 58 cm, shoulders 34 cm, chest 94 cm, waist 77 cm. Similar canvas in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, reference IS 104-1950.
