Ceremonial or ballet (?) dress, Romantic period, in white mu - Lot 247
Ceremonial or ballet (?) dress, Romantic period, in white muslin finely piped at the seams Circa 1840-1845. Pointed-front bodice with whalebone baleen (one whalebone broken in the back), wide oval neckline and short sleeves festooned with fine cream silk twisted trimmings. White linen lining with cotton pads for the bust and lacing eyelets in the back (original lace). Calf-length skirt for small round cage, amplified by two rows of finely pleated muslin at the waist. A possibly rare example of a tutu dress for the Ballet Romantique, invented in this period and magnified in Paris by Marie Taglioni. The cuts of the street and stage dresses were identical in the Romantic period. A stain on the skirt and small holes on one side panel, the only flaws to report. Dress cleaned. Good overall condition. Equivalent size 33-34. Height 110 cm, shoulders 38 cm, sleeves 14 cm, chest 90 cm, waist 54 cm, skirt height 84 cm, skirt bottom 320 cm.
