A summer crinoline promenade dress in finely smocked white cotton muslin Circa 1845-1850. Crew-neck bustier, long stovepipe sleeves, closed in the back with small pearly pass-through buttons. Remarkable cotton cord pleat work forming horizontal parallel lines on the bust and sleeves buttoned at the cuffs. Round crinoline skirt with three rows of bathers, finely pleated at the waist and closed behind with two original hooks on a cotton waistband. Rare minor yellowing, but the dress has been cleaned and has no holes. Very good condition. A rare piece. Iconographic reference, Théodore Chassériau's 1843 portrait of the two sisters - Musée du Louvre Paris. Marie-Antoinette-Adèle (1810-1869) and Geneviève Chassériau (1822-1871), sisters of the artist. Crinoline and petticoat not included in this sale. Height 145 cm, shoulders 33 cm, sleeves 63 cm, bust 83 cm, waist 59 cm, skirt 360 cm.
