Lyon, Louis Perrin, 1856. One volume in-8, red half-chagrin, spine with 5 ornate nerves, gilt head, cover preserved (binding by Bruyère). 1 f., L, 149 pp. The first complete reprint of this chanson de geste from the Dauphiné region: a faithful copy based on the only known copy printed in Lyon by Olivier Arnoullet in the early 16th century and held by the Grenoble library. If Alfred de Terrebasse, author of the preliminaries, who edited the edition with Louis Perrin, took a few liberties to make the text more readable, he explains: "apostrophes, accents, a few periods and commas will be used, capitals will be substituted for lower-case letters for proper nouns, and full words will replace the barbaric tachygraphy that makes reading the first productions of printing so painful". Impression by Louis Perrin, printed in small numbers, in italic augustal (preliminary) and roman (text) on tinted laid paper. 2 plates hors texte: 1/ Epitaph of Thierry, son of Gérard and Berthe, in two-tone double-page spread. 2/ Early 16th-century xylography, woodcut figure. From the library of Marius Côte, with the bookplate of the Château de Chazey-sur-Ain, engraved by Steyert. A very fine copy, despite occasional foxing.
