TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (Henri de) and GUIBERT (Maurice): - Lot 57
TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (Henri de) and GUIBERT (Maurice):
7 by 8.5 cm. Ex-Libris by Toulouse-Lautrec, created for his friend Maurice GUIBERT in 1893.
The bookplate alludes to the famous photo showing the artist dressed as a Japanese man, squinting and holding up two fingers of his right hand.
Maurice GUIBERT's initials are on either side of the face (M and G). The shape is modelled on that of tsubas (or guards on Japanese katanas).
The bookplate is glued to an empty binding. It is in very good condition. It is printed here in red.
See AFCEL bookplates database, reference G0127.
A rare testimony to Toulouse-Lautrec, and his humor...
TOULOUSE-LAUTREC designed only two Ex-Libris: the one presented here, and the one for Jules RENARD.
