14 by 22.5 cm. 443 pages (the first 16 in Roman numerals). Contemporary black half-chagrin, spine with 4 nicely decorated bands. Wear at the edges, blemishes on the upper cover, scattered foxing.
French first edition, and "true first edition" since it is established that it appeared at the end of 1865, despite the date 1866 on the title page. Vicaire IV, 334-335.

HUGO (Victor): Ruy Blas, bound with: Les Chants du crépuscule. Paris, Delloye and Leipzig, Brockhaus et Avenarius, 1838 (Ruy Blas) and Paris, Eugène Renduel, 1835 (Les chants du crépuscule). Two volumes in one.
13 by 20.5 cm. XXI-(2)-251; XVIII-(2)-354-(1) pages. Contemporary plum half-chagrin, spine decorated with gilt fillets. Slight wear to headpieces and endpapers (not serious). Scattered foxing on both volumes.
Second edition of Ruy Blas, forming Volume VII of Hugo's complete works (Dramas). The play was first performed on November 8, 1838 at the Théâtre de la Renaissance.
Copy with the double address of Paris and Leipzig. According to Talvart et Place (IX, p. 27), "these copies, no doubt intended to be sold abroad by the same booksellers who sold the in-12 edition, could represent the deluxe edition of Ruy Blas".
First edition of Chants du crépuscule, forming Volume V of Hugo's complete works (poetry). The sheet listing the works of Victor Hugo is present.
