PICASSO (Jacqueline): 14 handwritten letters from Jacqueline - Lot 93
PICASSO (Jacqueline): 14 handwritten letters from Jacqueline Picasso, the artist's wife and muse. Each letter is accompanied by a stamped envelope.
All sent from her residence L'Antre du Minotaure in Notre Dame de Vie (Mougins) to her steward at Château de Vauvenargues, where Picasso and his wife are buried.
These letters date from 1966 to 1969. They include a few notes on Pablo Picasso's state of health. One letter is 3 pages long, the other two.
"Jacqueline ROQUE met Pablo Picasso in 1952. He was seventy-two, she twenty-six. She was working at Madoura, the ceramist with whom Picasso had been collaborating since 1946. In the eyes of the aging artist, she embodied the perfect beauty of Spanish women, those with mantillas from his childhood. They married in 1961 in Vallauris, and Jacqueline watched over Picasso's last years, until his death in 1973.
She inherited most of Picasso's works, his house Notre-Dame-de-Vie in Mougins and the Château de Vauvenargues. She later fell into depression. Jacqueline Roque-Picasso committed suicide on October 15, 1986. At her request, she was buried alongside Picasso in the grounds of Château de Vauvenargues". Wikipedia.
