24.5 by 31.8 cm. 157 pages plus continuation in blue. Full steel-blue morocco, spine 4 nerfs decorated with Russian chivalry decorations in cold, boards decorated with a rich cold frame from Russian motifs, with a copper plate with polychrome enamel decoration, inlaid in the upper board. Gilt headband, inner lace, beige moiré endpapers. In a bordered slipcase. Small varnish defect on the edge of the enamel plate (not serious), otherwise as new.
The illustrations are by Pierre Joubert, who designed and produced 8 original watercolors off-text, 15 drawings in-text, 1 color title page, 7 color French initials, Russian initials and numerous medieval Russian motifs throughout the book.
Edition on Arches vellum pur chiffon (the only paper), one of 100 copies with a suite of 8 hors-texts in blue (N°21). Without the framed illustration indicated in the justification.
