Paris, Jean, 1826. One volume. 25.5 by 19.5 cm. 15 pages and 72 engravings (complete). Modern full cloth binding, bradel. Cover preserved. Minor blemishes on boards, spine split without affecting the book's solidity. Scattered foxing throughout the book, light marginal wetness at the top of the last 10 leaves, encroaching on the engravings for the last 5. Small, unobtrusive light marginal wetness on text and first 23 engravings. The cover, preserved, indicates 3rd delivery, the work having been sold by delivery. But our copy is complete. "Jean Jérôme Baugean, engraver, draughtsman and painter of landscapes and seascapes, 1764-1819. He never engraved unless he was the author of the original drawing. He has provided historians and enthusiasts with an invaluable source on early nineteenth-century ships." A very fine work, so precise is the depiction of the ships that it is both fine and elegant.
