KOCH (Christophe Guilelmus): Sanctio pragmatica germanorum illustrata. Argentorati (Strasbourg), Typis Rollandi et Jacobi, 1789. One volume. 21.5 by 26.5 cm. (4)-XXV-346 pages and 4 hors-texte plates, 3 of which folding. Engravings in text. Stiff full vellum, 5-rib spine decorated with cold fleurons, beveled edges, leather clasp. Modern binding, attributed to Ernest VALENTA. Very good condition (very few small brown spots). Rare study of the Pragmatic Sanction of 1439, and its consequences. This pragmatic sanction (whose elaboration continued from 1439 to 1516) governed the particular status of the Church of France, and initiated Gallicanism. Numerous documents, including reproductions of the treaties of 1439, 1447 and 1448... KOCH is a professor of law, historian, deputy during the Législative and later member of the Tribunat.
