Collection of 3 pamphlets on Vadier, president of the Commit - Lot 151
Collection of 3 pamphlets on Vadier, president of the Committee of General Safety under the Terror, and his main accuser Darmaing, all in modern bradel boards in perfect condition, 11.5 by 19 cm:
"Marc-Guillaume-Alexis Vadier, nicknamed le Grand Inquisiteur or le Bourreau de l'Ariège, born July 17, 1736 in Pamiers and died December 14, 1828 in Brussels, was a French politician who served during the French Revolution.
An influential Montagnard during the first part of the French Revolution, and particularly during the Terror, he is best known for having created the department of Ariège and led the Committee of General Safety with a firm hand, thus being one of the key figures of the Terror period and the "dean of its political police". Among other things, he presided over the National Convention when it voted to abolish slavery and, on Thermidor 9, took part in the fall of Robespierre, with whom he had a long-standing rivalry."
