Full marbled brown basane, spine with 4 nerves, gold-framed and cold-decorated boxes, boards with a cold floral frame, and a white porcelain bust of Montesquieu in the center of the upper board, interior lace, gilt head. Brown half-basane wrappers reproducing the spine of the book, moiré brown silk boards, fleecy moiré brown silk interior. Very good condition (tiny rubs on spine of wrappers). One of 150 copies (N°21) on Arches vellum (the only paper), including an original color illustration, an original black drawing bound at the end of volume 4, and a bistre suite of in-text and out-of-text illustrations (bound at the end of each volume). Our copy lacks the framed plate. An attractive illustration of this fundamental philosophical and political text, in a neat binding.
