2. LORRIS (Guillaume de): Le Roman de la Rose. Illustrations by André HUBERT. Paris, Éditions de l'Ibis, 1965.
Set of two volumes.
18.5 by 24.5 cm. The two volumes are very similar in binding: full tan basane, 4-nerved spine, gilt title, boards richly decorated with fillets and cold fleurons, with an ivory-style relief plate in the center of the first board featuring a couple (or a crowned angel and a man for volume 2) framed by foliage, gilt head, aurora moiré silk endpapers. . Havana half-basin slipcase, 4-nerved spine, boards in aurora moiré silk. The slipcase contains a half-basane booklet translating the text into modern French. Good condition (only one mentionable defect: the plate on vol. 2 has come loose).
Double-page color plate, polychrome floral frame and color vignettes by André HUBERT.
Edition of 1200 copies (+ H.C.), no. 1105 (volume 1) and 1104 (volume 2) on Lana chiffon vellum.
A pleasant edition of these two versions of the medieval text.
