Reunion of 3 rare 17th and 18th century books on Protestantism, bound:
1. LORETZ (Johann): Exposition des principes et de la discipline de l'unité évangélique des Frères de la confession d'Augsbourg. Translated from the German. Neuwied sur le Rhin, Imprimerie de la Société Typographique; et se trouve à tous les Établissemens des Frères, 1794. One volume.
11 by 19 cm. VII-(1)-296 pages. Contemporary full shagreened basane, 5-rib spine. Upper edge slightly worn, cracks on spine (not serious), good condition inside.
Translation of the Ratio disciplinæ unitatis fratrum Augustanæ Confessionis.
First edition in French (E.O. in German: 1789). The CCFr. lists only one copy (B.N.F.).
2. ESPAGNE (Jean d'): Les erreurs populaires dans les poincts généraux, qui concernent l'intelligence de la religion. Rapportez à leurs causes, et compris en diverses observations. Geneva, I. Ant. & Samuel De Tournes, 1671. One volume.
8 by 14 cm. (18)-204 pages. Modern full vellum, antique style, in perfect condition. Mottling in the outer margin throughout the volume, not serious. A good copy.
The 1st edition dates from 1639.

3. SUPERVILLE (Daniel de): Le vrai communiant, ou traité de la Sainte Cène, & des moiens d'y participer bien. Rotterdam, Abraham Acher, 1719 [Première partie. Seconde édition revûë & corrigée]-1718 [Seconde partie]; 2 parts in 1 volume.
9 by 14.5 cm. continuous pagination of (16)-575 pages. Contemporary full basane, spine with 4 ornate nerves. Title rebacked, corners dulled, scattered foxing.
First edition for the 2nd part and second edition for the 1st (E.O.: 1718). Uncommon.
The CCFr. locates only one copy of the original edition (B.M. de Lyon) and none of the 2nd edition; Conlon 19: 633 describes a copy identical to ours and considers it to be the original, and locates only 2 copies (British library and Bibliothèque wallone d'Amsterdam).
Daniel Superville was born in Saumur in 1657, studied in Geneva, and was made pastor in Loudun, where he remained until the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, when persecution under Louis XIV forced him to leave his homeland and take refuge in Holland. He was appointed minister in Rotterdam, where he remained until his death in 1728.
