François Lieutenant au Bon des Sapeurs de l'armée du Rhin le 1er Frimaire 2ème année républicaine. Curious copy by a lieutenant in the Army of the Rhine, who "republicanized" the dedication to the Duc de Berry. Dupain de Montesson, geographer-engineer for the king's camps and armies, fought in the Seven Years' War as part of Berthier's cartographic team. He was then appointed to teach topography and fortification to the Duc de Berry, the future Louis XVI.
