LAMBERT D'HERBIGNY (François). Period copy... - Lot 190 - Richard Maison de ventes
LAMBERT D'HERBIGNY (François). Period copy of the manuscript of the Memorandum containing the governments of the Lyonnais Forest and Beaujollois drawn up by François Lambert d'Herbigny, intendant of the Lyonnais at the request of M. de Beauvilliers, for the instruction of the Dauphin in 1697 and presented to the Duke of Burgundy at his passage to Lyon in 1701. Manuscript. One volume. 20,5 by 30,5 cm. 102 leaves (203 pages numbered by hand in Arabic numerals) in a good handwriting, undated but executed most probably at the very beginning of the 18th century. It is bound in full modern vellum. It contains some later marginal annotations (ca 1750). Very good condition. This manuscript, of which about fifteen copies are known, remained unpublished until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1902, it was published by Marie Chavannes (with an introduction and notes) under the title: Mémoire sur le gouvernement de Lyon (1697). Son of a steward, steward himself in Montauban, then in Lyon (1694) and Rouen (1700), d'Herbigny took serious information: the basis of his work is formed by the research of the nobility of 1667 and 1668 and especially by the answers of the parish priests to the questionnaire he had sent to all the parishes. An exceptional document
