In Paris, From the Imp. of Huby, 1612. One volume. 10 by 16 cm. (18)-409-(24) pages. Full contemporary vellum, smooth spine. Binding in good condition, endpapers torn. Good condition inside. Jean d'Oronville or d'Orville, known as Cabaret, lived in the entourage of several princes: in the service of Amédée VIII of Savoy around 1417-1419, he wrote the Chronique de Savoye in old French at his request, a founding text of Savoyard historical literature, before devoting himself ten years later to the Chronique du bon duc Loys de Bourbon, while in Bourbonnais. He thus worked, on order, for princes who wanted a glorification of their dynasty. The chronicle was first published in 1612 by Jean Masson, archdeacon of Bayeux, brother of Papire Masson, from a manuscript in the library of his brother, who had just died. Even if it is hagiographic, this text is a beautiful illustration of the chivalric life of the time.
