CELINE (Louis-Ferdinand): Shaking the jar.... - Lot 130 - Richard Maison de ventes
CELINE (Louis-Ferdinand): Shaking the jar. Paris, Lanauve de Tartas, n.d. [1948]. One volume. 15 by 19.5 cm. (6)-29-(5) pages. Burgundy half-marquin with corners, smooth spine titled in the Chinese style, gilt head. Some minor scratches on the binding. Very good inside condition, except freckles on the papers added by the bookbinder in front and at the end of the volume to increase the thickness of the book. Original edition of the pamphlet against Jean-Paul Sartre. With the cover page in two copies. Copy N°1 on auvergne, 1st paper, only 3 copies. First text of CELINE published since his escape from France in 1944, it is a virulent response to an article by Jean-Paul SARTRE published in 1945, Portrait d'un antisémite. It is also the first work published by Pierre Lanauve de Tartas, who would later become a major publisher of art books. A rare copy of a cult text, in a finely executed binding. For the discerning collector.
