1989 - BMW 325i E30 TC2 Baur - Lot 64
1989 - BMW 325i E30 TC2 Baur French registration Chassis n°WBAAA110303554473 Bodywork n°18826-15 - Rare Baur "Top cabriolet" version with the most powerful engine - Original "Malachitgroen" configuration, natural leather and brown soft top - Interesting history file and Motorsport equipment - Very nice condition and working order - Maintenance up to date, ready to drive Baur is a Stuttgart-based bodybuilder specializing in the conversion of vehicles into convertibles, in particular BMWs; a brand with which it began its history in the 1930s. In 1971 the Baur transformation is integrated into the BMW range as an option on the 2002, then the series 3 E21 called "Top-Cabrio", which will be unofficially renamed thereafter "TC1". After the launch of the series 3 E30 in 1982 in two-door version and in the absence of declination convertible (until 1987) by the Munich mark, the partnership between the two companies is renewed. The Baur 3 Series E30 cabriolet was born, just like the E21, under the same stylistic principle of convertible, under the name "TC2" for Top-Cabrio 2. The transformation is carried out on an E30 already assembled, to remove the roof and the rear pillars, in order to replace them by quarter windows and a manual soft top in two parts, as well as a roll bar to rigidify the unit. The soft top consists of a retractable hard top over the front seats and a soft, folding canvas covering the rear seats. All versions of the 3 Series E30 on the market (9) except the M3, from the 316i to the 325i, can be ordered with the Baur option. This is partly what made its success compared to the convertible which had to be satisfied with 4 engines, since there were 10865 copies of TC2 produced in Europe. This is a real success considering the originality, the appearance of the less expensive cabriolet version and the price of this "official" transformation, almost handmade. The TC2 Baur of our vacation is one of the 481 European examples built in the 325i version, i.e. in the most powerful version available, with 170 horsepower. This great rarity is due to the fact that the price of the Baur convertible option was so expensive at the time, that many cars with this option were ordered with cheaper, less powerful engines. So this is a very difficult car to find that we offer you. Especially since it is in an unusual configuration, in "Malachitgroen" dark green metallic with natural leather and "Sonnenland brown" soft top. First registered in Belgium on February 16, 1989, but probably always remained in the south of France with the same owner according to the invoice file, the proposed TC2 then changed hands in 2019. The current owner acquired it in 2020, seduced by the good general condition of the car and its important history file. This includes the copy of the purchase invoice of the vehicle dated February 7, 1989 from the BMW dealer in Antwerp, the maintenance booklet although deteriorated, the manuals and numerous maintenance invoices. The latter allow us to see how the car has been maintained, which explains its very good general condition and functioning today. The bodywork has been painted several years ago, while the soft top is in near new condition and the interior, with sport seats and alcantara M-type steering wheel, is very clean, even if the seatbelt blocks are sunburned and the dashboard plastic has some cracks. The engine service light comes on even though the last service was just performed before the sale. Considering the recent work done, the maintenance is up to date. The car has just under 200,000 km, which is within the norm for this type of car, and is ready to drive. It has its complete tool kit as well as its spare keys and its soft top cover. It is therefore an interesting example, as it is very complete and in the most desirable version of a rare and original car, whose value in collection is increasingly recognized, and which you could enjoy this summer.
