DESCARTES (René): The Principles of the philosophy... - Lot 171 - Richard Maison de ventes
DESCARTES (René): The Principles of the philosophy of René Descartes. Fourth edition, revised & corrected very exactly by Mr. CLR. Paris, Théodore Girard, 1681. One volume. 17 by 22,5 cm. Frontispiece-(60)-477-(3) pages and 21 folding plates (complete). Full contemporary basane, spine with five raised bands, red title page. Binding in average condition (corners damaged, spotting, defects to the headpieces, ). Interior in good condition (let us point out, however, a membership masked on the frontispiece by an unmeasured use of ink, some paper losses in the corner of a dozen leaves (without missing), and a small light marginal wetness on a few leaves). Numerous illustrations in the text. The first part of the work is devoted to the principles of human knowledge, the second to the principles of material things, the third to the visible world and the fourth and last to the earth. The plates are those that appeared in the Principia philosophiae of 1644. CLR : this is Claude Clerselier, Cartesian, 1614-1684, who was the editor and translator of several of René Descartes' works
