MASSON (Jean-Papire): Descriptio fluminum... - Lot 174 - Richard Maison de ventes
MASSON (Jean-Papire): Descriptio fluminum Galliae, que Francia est. Nunc primum in lucem edita, Christianissimoque Regi dicata. Parisiis, Apud Jacobum Quesnel, 1518 [sic for 1618], one volume. 10.5 by 17 cm. 1 portrait-(10)-684-1 blank f.-(22) pages. Contemporary full vellum, handwritten title in pen on spine, skinned edges and cuts, with old restoration. The copy is unstuck. Staining on the title page, and in the lower margin of half the volume. Small tear without missing on the title page, neatly restored. Despite these defects, a correct copy. First edition of this treatise on the geography of the rivers of France with descriptions and valuable information on the main navigable rivers of France: the Loire, the Seine, the Rhone and the Garonne, with a description of the regions and cities crossed. The headlines, in French, give the names of the places described in the Latin text. The author does not limit himself to a dry description of the course of the principal rivers: he studies at the same time the regions that these rivers cross and the people living along them.
