1959 - Peugeot 403 Sedan - Lot 101
1959 - Peugeot 403 Sedan French circulation permit Chassis n°2400893 Bodywork n°2FGG4S/N4R - Most powerful and luxurious "8" model with sunroof - Same owner for more than 18 years - Regular maintenance, recent clutch and exhaust - Original paint, interior and engine compartment To meet the new demands of the 1950s, Peugeot decided to focus on what it knew how to do. The public could once again afford to buy more luxurious and roadworthy cars. The range of the manufacturer includes only the economic 203, it develops a beline adapted to the new needs. While Citroën chose innovation with the DS/ID, Peugeot chose classicism and tradition with the 403. It was presented at the Trocadero in 1955 and was a real commercial success, especially as at that time no French manufacturer was offering a mass-market car in the road car segment. Designed by Pininfarina, Peugeot provided its flagship with numerous options and multiplied the bodywork with vans, station wagons or commercials and in particular a superb cabriolet which was to become the pride of Inspector Colombo. It is equipped with a 4-cylinder engine of 1468 cm3 and 8 HP developing 58 horses, which allows the 403-8 to run at more than 120 km/h and authorizes long-distance travel. It is first the luxury version that appears, the entry-level version 403-7 is presented only a few years later. The 403 is a car that has contributed to a significant improvement of the comfort of the cars of the time. It continued to be driven on the roads of France, but also all over the world, for a long time because it met a commercial success never known by the firm of Sochaux by exceeding for the first time in its history the million copies produced. Our 403 is an 8 horsepower version, so it is the most upmarket version. It was put on the road on January 7, 1959. It is presented in an ivory white livery and black velvet and skai interior. It is equipped with a radio, a sunroof and roof bars. It has of course been repainted in the past and the interior refreshed, but the engine compartment still has its original paint. This is a car that presents itself in a consistent cosmetic condition, consistent for a 63 year old car. It runs well and has been regularly maintained as evidenced by the notes of its owner, whose hands it has been in for nearly 14 years. In addition to all its arguments, our 403 is presented without a reserve price and will certainly please classic car enthusiasts, who wish to drive a car full of soul and charm.
