[VOLTAIRE (François-Marie Arouet, dit): La Henriade, poem by Voltaire, decorated with lithographic drawings [by Horace VERNET]. Paris, E. Dubois [Imprimerie de Gaultier-Laguionie], 1825. One volume. 28 by 41 cm. LX-233 pages, with 87 lithographed plates, by VERNET, under serpents, including a frontispiece and 86 views or portraits after Mauzaisse, on tinted background (complete). Full cherry streaked morocco, spine with large faux-nerves decorated with fine gilt floral semis, triple octagonal gilt caissons with cold floral semis in the inter-nerves, gilt filets and cold garlands on the boards enclosing a large geometrical plate alternating cold motifs and gilt garlands, coat of arms in the center of the boards, triple gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges, inner lace, the whole in a bordered slipcase. Binding signed J. HERING. Excellent condition of the binding, rubbing and wear to the slipcase. Some foxing throughout the book. Magnificent deluxe edition of the Henriade, on vellum paper, embellished with an abundant iconography reproducing the actors of the time and various scenes of the reign of Henri IV. Copy of the baron Laurent-Martin Duval de Fraville (1791-1871), politician of the Haute-Marne, whose arms are in the center of the plates. An exceptional binding, in the service of Horace VERNET's illustration.
