[MANUSCRIT] [Balkans - Russia] DESAINS (Henry):... - Lot 113 - Richard Maison de ventes
[MANUSCRIT] [Balkans - Russia] DESAINS (Henry): Historical and administrative studies. S.l., circa 1907-1912. A large volume. 20 by 26.5 cm. 530 pages in total, with multiple paginations (see details below). 26 maps, mostly folding and colored, collected for each text in a pocket. Writing in violet ink, very legible. Half green basane with period corners, spine with 5 nerves, red title page, gilt fillet on the boards, green cardboard covers preserved for each booklet. Spine unstained, slight wear to the edges and corners. Modest binding in decent condition, excellent condition inside. The work deals with the following topics: Russian interventions in the Balkan Peninsula Historical note on Croatia, Dalmatia and the Republic of Ragusa Historical note on Bosnia and Herzegovina Historical note on Serbia and Montenegro Historical note on Bulgaria Historical note on Romania Historical note on Ireland 1 Les Interventions russes dans la péninsule des Balkans [4]-47 pages, with a collette on page 2, and 3 folding maps (two colored), numbered 1, 2 and 4. A very interesting personal collection of six notes essentially devoted to the then explosive political situation of the Balkans, between the Congress of Berlin (1876) and the (very close) Balkan wars of 1912-1913 which were going to upset the cartography of the region (one of the colored maps of the collection presents moreover the borders after 1913). It is more difficult to determine both the personality of the author, who seems not to have published anything in the years 1890-1918, and the purpose of these notes, perhaps memoranda for a course, or perhaps a personal vade mecum. The sources quoted are public (books or reviews) but the author exposes many facts directly. Followed by: 2. Historical note on Croatia, Dalmatia and the Republic of Ragusa. S.l., May 1907, [4]-16 pp. with 4 colored maps. 3. Historical note on Bosnia and Herzegovina. S.l., May 1907, [4]-28 pp. with 2 colored maps and a genealogical table, all flying and enclosed. 4. Notice sur la Serbie et le Monténégro. S.l., July and August 1907, [4]-[111] pp. misfigured 109 (there is a f. 81bis and 81ter), with 7 colored maps, and 2 genealogical tabl., all loose and enclosed. 5. Historical note on Bulgaria. S.l., August and September 1907, March 1909, [4]-[86] pp. misfigured 84 (there is an 8bis), with 6 colored maps flying and inset (one is dated 1912). 6. Historical note on Romania. S.l., September-December 1907, [4]-75 pp. with 3 colored maps, loose and inset. 7. Historical note on Ireland. S.l., December 1907-February 1908, [4]-139 pp. with one colored map and 2 folding tables. A work of original research on a region promised to many upheavals
