BALZAC (Honoré de): Memoirs of two young... - Lot 123 - Richard Maison de ventes
BALZAC (Honoré de): Memoirs of two young brides. Paris, Hippolyte Souverain, 1842-1843. 2 volumes. 13,5 by 22 cm. 355; (4)-325 pages. Full leather binding à la Bradel modern, in a romantic style, smooth spines decorated with gilt frames. Covers preserved, laminated on a period paper. Untrimmed copy. Binding in good condition. Scattered foxing but not too serious. Stamps of former ownership under the title pages. First edition with a relay title for volume 2 dated 1843. This epistolary novel - the only one written by Balzac - appeared in serial form in La Presse from November 1, 1841 to January 15, 1842. It is dedicated to George Sand, Balzac wishing to attest "the true friendship that has continued between us, through our travels, and our absences, our work and the wickedness of the world. A precious copy, as it has kept the original covers, often lost during the binding.
