From the presses of Jean David, known as La Mouche, who practiced his art in Lyon from 1527 to 1531, this work was printed for Vincent de Portonariis whose mark appears on the first page. The title, printed in red and black, is placed in a beautiful allegorical frame. A copy identical to ours is in the Harvard University Library. This edition is unknown to S. von Gültlingen, who describes (vol. VI-p. 98: 20), with the same printer and publisher, an edition whose colophon mentions a different date: 1529. Die Vero 28 mensis Aprilis. Ippolito MARSILI, also known under the Latin name of Hippolyte de Marsiliis (1451-1529), was an Italian jurist and professor. In his works, he was interested in the use of torture, and in particular the effectiveness of the Chinese water drop Very nice post-incunabula printing.
