ALLMER (Auguste) and TERREBASSE (Alfred de):... - Lot 130 - Richard Maison de ventes
ALLMER (Auguste) and TERREBASSE (Alfred de): Inscriptions antiques & du Moyen âge de Vienne en Dauphiné. Vienne, Girard, 1875-1876. 6 volumes and an Atlas. 16 by 24,5 cm for the text, 21 by 27,5 cm for the Atlas. Brown half-maroquin of the period, spine with 5 nerves, boxes decorated with the arms of Vienne (dauphin), cold framing of the boxes, gilt head. Binding signed Louis GUETANT. Very good condition of the binding (some minor rubbing). Very good condition inside. All defects without gravity for this rare work. The Atlas, made by Auguste and Adrien ALLMER, includes 193 plates (complete), reproduced in facsimile. Very rare light foxing on a few plates, a few browned leaves (defect that seems common to all copies). With 1 folding map out of the text and a plan out of the text. First edition. Remarkable work which received the first prize of the national antiquities competition, awarded by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. It lists about 600 inscriptions with Latin text, translation and commentary. The atlas reproduces in lithography the 600 inscriptions If the work on the ancient inscriptions of Lyon is quite common, the one on the inscriptions of Vienne is difficult to find. And this copy is in a very elegant binding by GUETANT.
