SAINT-PIERRE (Charles-Irénée Castel de): Discours sur la Polysynodie, où l'on démontre que la Polysinodie, ou pluralité des Conseils, est la forme la plus avantageuse pour un Roi, et pour son royaume. At Amsterdam, by Du Villard and Changuion, 1719. One volume. 9,5 by 16 cm. (20)-265-(6)-(12) pages. Full contemporary speckled calf, spine with five raised bands, ornamented caissons, red title page. One corner slightly worn, otherwise very good condition of the binding. Interior in excellent condition. Second edition after the in-4 edition of 1718. The Discourse on Polysynody (which advocated the creation of councils instead of the government of Ministers), and which openly criticized the politics of Louis XIV, caused a scandal at court and led to the exclusion of its author from the Academy. However, his disgrace did not prevent him from continuing his criticisms and from establishing projects in the direction of the improvement of the functioning of the Royalty, and the fate of humanity. He worked in particular on a Project to make the perpetual Peace in Europe Good copy despite two worn corners.
