1995 - Ford Escort RS Cosworth French registration... - Lot 114 - Richard Maison de ventes
1995 - Ford Escort RS Cosworth French registration Chassis N° WFOBXXGKABRM98916 - Small series of a rally model made for the road - Garret T25 turbocharged version more usable and pleasant than the T35 - Original Swiss model, without the bulky rear spoiler - Equipped with electric sunroof and air conditioning - Very nice condition with less than 21,000 km on the clock - Just finished a major overhaul, ready to drive 35 000 / 45 000 € In the World Rally Championship, there is an intense competition between the manufacturers. At the end of the 80's, beginning of the 90's, Lancia is in the lead, but Toyota and its Celica, driven by Carlos Sainz, seem to be the only ones able to challenge for the title. Ford uses the Sierra RS Cosworth in rallying, first in a 2-wheel drive 2-door coupe version, then in a 4-door sedan version, and finally in a 4-wheel drive version, whose results are encouraging but still insufficient, before playing its last card with the Escort, which is more compact and easier to handle, to try to get into the title race. The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was born in this context, to meet the requirement of producing at least 2,500 production cars for Group A homologation. If the basic Ford Escort was rather discreet and unobtrusive, the Cosworth version, born from the preparation of the eponymous British engine manufacturer, is quite the opposite! The wheelbase is shorter than that of its big sister, the Sierra, which considerably enhances the car's liveliness and handling. It uses the same proven mechanical package as its predecessor: 4-cylinder, twin-shaft engine with all-wheel drive. However, this time the engine, whose cylinder head has been redesigned, benefits from a turbo with a larger exchanger, as well as an optimized lubrication and cooling system. As for the style of the Karmann body, it is partly dictated by aerodynamics and technology. For example, the prominent wheel arches allow for the increase in wheel size to 16 inches or even 17 or 18 inches in competition, while the air extractors on the hood and in the fenders contribute to the engine cooling. The handling of the Escort RS Cosworth is perfect, with an impressive cornering speed, without being so firm as to be uncomfortable. In 1994, taking advantage of the changes in regulations, Ford, to remedy certain criticisms concerning the range of use of the turbocharger, revised its copy with the installation of a smaller one. This one significantly improves the driving pleasure of the Escort RS Cosworth due to a better exploitation of the engine and increasing a little more the exceptional performance of this one, with a ratio of 114 horsepower/liter. This version will be produced until the end of the production of this sacred monster homologated on the road for the rally in 1996, to the great displeasure of all the enthusiasts of vehicles of "competition-customer" as authentic as this Escort RS Cosworth. The Ford Escort of our sale is a copy of this RS Cosworth "phase 2" series, that is to say equipped with the Garret T25 turbocharger, allowing to develop a power of 227 horses, in a much more linear and pleasant way than with the T35 of the previous version. It was put on the road on February 21, 1995 in Switzerland, as confirmed by its configuration in relation to the legislation in force there, in the absence of the voluminous rear spoiler in favor of the small less exuberant. This is a rather well optioned car, as it has both the sunroof and the air conditioning. The car was imported to France a few years ago, before its current owner, an enthusiast and connoisseur of the model, acquired it in 2017. It is in very good condition today and has just under 21,000 kilometers on the odometer. The vehicle has probably had few owners, but they have all obviously taken great care of it as its condition is so satisfactory. The Recaro seats are well preserved, as well as the whole interior and everything is strictly original. Mechanically, a major overhaul has just been carried out in March 2023 by a Cosworth specialist, including the replacement of the timing belt and accessories, the water pump and the engine, gearbox and axle oil change with filters. The four tires are also new. It is sold ready to take the road. The Escort RS Cosworth is an unusual and coveted car, with a total production of only 7,145 units. Often modified by their owners, the proposed example can boast a beautiful original condition, an interesting configuration and be equipped with the Ga
