1963 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint French circulation title Chassis n°354863 Engine n°AR00502*15559 - Attractive type 10112, better finished and more powerful - Engine fully restored in 2017 - Many works in the last years - Pre-equipped for historical competitions 56 000 / 68 000 € In 1962 Alfa Romeo unveiled a new Giulia sedan, the coupe version of which was launched the following year as the "Giulia GT", also known as the "Bertone coupe". Nevertheless, the Cloverleaf brand did not resign itself immediately to the abandonment of the Giulietta Sprint model and its Spider convertible version, which had been a huge success. Alfa Romeo extended the life of its flagship model by renaming it "Giulia" and equipping it with a new engine with increased displacement. The presentation took place on June 27, 1962 at the Monza circuit. The Giulia "1600" Sprint (coupe) and Spider (convertible) are in fact Giulietta equipped with the new mechanics of the Giulia TI sedan: the 1570 cc engine coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox, developing 92 horsepower. Aesthetically, the differences with the Giulietta are minimal and are mainly limited to the monograms. From an equipment point of view, the equipment is slightly enriched. Moreover, well suspended thanks to independent wheels at the front and a set of swinging and articulated arms at the rear, the Giulia Sprint has a nice balance and a good behavior on the road. Skillfully combining the famous "Bialbero" twin-cam engine with the timeless lines of the Giulietta, the Giulia Sprint is the ideal compromise between sportiness and Italian elegance. The Alfa Romeo Giulia of our vacation is a Sprint version, launched on February 18, 1963. It is presented in its timeless "Rosso Red" color with burgundy interior and grey carpet. Mechanically, it has two Weber double-barrel carburetors in accordance with the original assembly. The current owner acquired it in 2015 from Espace Century in the Paris region. The car had just been restored with paint and upholstery. After a few thousand kilometers, he had a complete rebuild of the engine type AR00502, corresponding to a Giulia GT/GTC (Bertone) of the year 1965 developing 103 horsepower, with notably a dismantling of the cylinder head, a replacement of the valve guides, the crankshaft, the flywheel and the timing chain. The engine and gearbox sealing were also redone. All this for a little more than 12 000 € justified by invoices. The running-in was done as it should be. Since then, the car has done a little more than 5000km. To complete this upgrade, the shock absorbers and various silent blocks have been replaced. The dashboard has also been completely revised. The brakes have also just been overhauled. With 30030 kilometers on the day of the shooting, the car is in a satisfactory general state of presentation and enviable operation. This Giulia Sprint is the ideal car for historic races. It is mounted on TZ aluminum rims. On the other hand, it is also equipped with a pair of Oscar long spans and pre-equipped with a Trip Master (probe and support). It also participated in the Stuttgart-Lyon-Charbonnières last year. Today the Giulia Sprint 1600, produced in 7107 units between 1962 and 1964, has become a rare piece and the timeless charm of its line, the brilliance of its engine associated with an amazing reliability, and a behavior that still leaves one wondering about it today, make it a very endearing car.
