1973 - Citroën DS 23 IE Pallas French circulation... - Lot 129 - Richard Maison de ventes
1973 - Citroën DS 23 IE Pallas French circulation permit Chassis n° 01FG5656 - The most accomplished and the last DS - Desirable hydraulic gearbox - Good general state of preservation - Many recent works, nearly 10 000 € of invoice 25 000 / 35 000 € A symbol of French industrial genius and a true automotive myth, the Citroën DS had the difficult task of succeeding the Traction Avant. It appeared in 1955 and was strikingly modern on all levels. On the one hand, its line, which is due to the Italian designer and sculptor Flaminio Bertoni, in collaboration with engineers linked to aeronautics and hydraulics, is completely new. On the other hand, its conception as well as its technique are revolutionary. The DS is indeed the bearer of many innovations that set it apart from the rest of the car production of the time, at least in Europe. In addition to its legendary hydropneumatic suspension, which will remain unique to the brand almost until today, it offers a completely new equipment: power steering, front disc brakes, and semi-automatic gearbox with hydraulic control to name but a few examples. Other new features such as swivel headlights in 1967 and electronic fuel injection in 1969 followed in the course of its development. During its career of about twenty years, the variations of the DS are numerous, from a body point of view, going from the elegant convertible to the iconic sedan, passing by the utility station wagon, without forgetting as regards the various versions, the famous "Pallas" finish from 1965. The DS 21, with a larger displacement and 100 horsepower, was launched the same year. In 1973, Citroën presents the DS 23, available in carburettor or injection versions. The latter is considered to be the most exclusive. The DS is a gifted car that can do everything and even shines in competition, winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 1958. Unquestionably a car of the 20th century, the DS has marked its time, as much by its beauty as its technological advance, so much so that it is today one of the most collected cars in the world. The Citroën DS of our vacation is a requested version 23 with electronic injection and Pallas finish. It is equipped with the famous hydraulic gearbox. It was launched on September 10, 1973 and had a limited number of owners. The car is still today in its original "Gris Nacré" color. The bodywork and the generous chromes dressing it are overall in an authentic state, rather well preserved for a car blowing its fifty candles this year! The interior has kept its strict original configuration and is in very good condition. This rather appreciable aesthetic condition is justified by a probably original mileage of less than 60,000 km. Having obviously been little used but well maintained by its owners, the "Flying Saucer" can boast of a large recent invoice attached to the file. Indeed, a general mechanical overhaul has been done last year. In addition to a complete overhaul, the work included power supply, injection, cooling, steering, braking, suspension, gear control and electricity, as well as the starter and alternator which are new. The only thing to look out for is a clutch vibration at the slip point at certain times. More than 10,000 € of recent expenses at a recognized classic car specialist have been incurred to ensure a serene use of this beautiful DS. This car is therefore in an enviable general condition, both in terms of presentation and operation, especially in its most sought-after version and configuration. The DS 23 IE Pallas is undoubtedly the most successful of all DS and concludes twenty years of production of a car whose reputation is well established. Moreover its sympathy capital is among the most important in France: the DS, a monument in the pantheon of the French automobile!
