MARGALET (Claude): Statuta aquensis curiæ... - Lot 239 - Richard Maison de ventes
MARGALET (Claude): Statuta aquensis curiæ submissionum, ac forma in ea agendi copiose tribus livris tractata. Trium librorum materia sequens pagina aperte tibi paucis indicabit. Impressum Avenione apud Mathæum Vincentium Typographum, 1559. One volume. 14.8 by 20.8 cm. 319-(29) pages. Modern full vellum, antique style. Worm work in the upper margin without affecting the text on the first 20 leaves, skilfully restored. Light staining on about forty leaves (not serious). Paper sometimes slightly browned. First edition. A very rare work, as much for its printing as for its subject. Impressions by Mathieu Vincent are few and far between, with three known between 1557 and 1559. The rarity of the "Statuts de la Cour des soumissions" is probably due to the printer's bankruptcy in 1559. "A final form of control ratione materiae may be mentioned, that concerning letters of clamor. As an exception to the rule of public order, according to which the parties cannot themselves designate the order of jurisdictions, it was then possible, in contractual matters, to establish by a private deed signed before a notary who had to be a Provencal, that enforcement measures would fall under the jurisdiction of the Chambre des Soumissions, the new name given by the edict of March 1554 to the former Chambre rigoureuse. " (Le Parlement de Provence 1501 - 1790. Actes du colloque d'Aix-en-Provence, April 6 and 7, 2001, p. 159).
