Precious Roman-style chasuble in gold and silver cloth, Ital - Lot 92
Precious Roman-style chasuble in gold and silver cloth, Italy Circa 1700, later late 19th century. Brocade in crimped gold and silver thread, with large Baroque decoration, ordered volutes, palms, cornucopias and floral lozenges. Remarkable braid from the same period in gold thread passementerie applied and embroidered on the background. Later pink satinette lining. An unusual detail, this rare sheet was consolidated at the end of the 19th century by parallel vertical stitching, sewn by sewing machine, notably to give a Majolica stitch effect for later reuse. 105 cm x 73 cm, some thread pulling and discoloration to lining, otherwise very good condition.
