"Le Témoin". Director Paul Iribe. N°1 (Dec. 10, 1933) to N°69 (June 30, 1935), is a satirical and highly political magazine written almost entirely by Paul Iribe, under various pseudonyms. Each issue has 16 pages and is illustrated with numerous black, blue, white and red drawings by Villemot, Chas Laborde, Sennep, Vertès, Touchagues, André Hellé, etc. and Paul Iribe himself. Publication ended with Paul Iribe's death on September 21, 1935.
This was a new version of the artist's first magazine, published from 1906 to 1910 under the same title. Iribe undertook it in 1933, when France was hit by the economic crisis that had begun in the United States in 1929, the 3rd Republic was running out of steam and fascism was on the rise in Europe. At the time, Iribe's newspaper was in line with right-wing publications: ultranationalist, anti-Soviet, anti-Hitler, anti-Masonic and xenophobic. But today, his talent as an illustrator remains unchallenged.
