Freemasonry - A KADOSH Knight's Diploma from 1825. 45 by 58 - Lot 80
Freemasonry - A KADOSH Knight's Diploma from 1825. 45 by 58 cm. Very good condition, with its red wax seal virtually intact, and in its original case (defects to the case). Very fine diploma by Charles-Joseph DUPRAS, born January 30, 1770 in Bourg (Ain). Titled: Commandeurs F\ & EC\ du Mont - Thabor R\ Anc\& Acc\ O\ de Paris, Agrégés au Grand Orient de France. The diploma is on parchment, on a figure with partly Egyptian motifs, engraved by Commandeur HOUBIGANT in 1819. The mention "agrégés au GODF" is a reminder of the complex integration of the High Grades of the Rite Ecossais Ancien Accepté and the Rite de Perfection into the GODF in 1815, from an order founded in 1807, as the diploma recalls. Lodges of the 30th degree, Elu Chevalier Kadosh, were created around 1820... This diploma is therefore very close to the constitution of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in the form that is the basis of the current Rite. The document also mentions: Chef d'Ordre des Dames Ecossaises, under the same title of Mont Thabor. This reference recalls the adoption of L'Ordre des Dames Ecossaises de l'Hospice du Mont Thabor, a secret society of women, which was attached in 1811 to the Scottish Philosophical Lodge of the Commanders of Mont Thabor. Women's secret and para-Masonic societies had both philanthropic aims and initiatory practices... The diploma is signed by the impetrant, and by all the Officers of the Lodge. A rare document, in near-perfect condition.
