BAILLOU (Guillaume de) & SETTALA (L.). Labyrinthi medici - Lot 38
BAILLOU (Guillaume de) & SETTALA (L.). Labyrinthi medici extricati, sive methodus vitandorum errorum qui in Praxi occurrunt, Monstrantibus. Geneva, Samuel de Tournes, 1687. One small volume in-4, full speckled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, (16) ff, 733 pp, (22) ff, 20 pp. Hinges partially split, tear with slight lack of leather on first cover, foxing. This work, given by the erudite Genevan physician Théophile Bonet, is the second edition of the one published in 1668 under the title "Pharos medicarum". Guillaume de Baillou (1538-1616) or Baillon was, in his day, one of the great masters of medicine, faithful to the doctrine of Hippocrates; he was even considered the first of the hygienist physicians. All his works were not published until after his death.
