[CHARLES VII]: Circular letter sent by the Emperor to his Ministers in foreign Courts. London, Joseph Collyer, 1744. One volume. 12 by 19.5 cm. Double pagination of 15 pages, for a text in French on the left-hand pages, and English on the right-hand page. Modern full boards. Title page slightly soiled, and with two handwritten lines at head. After the death of Emperor Charles VI of the Holy Roman Empire in 1740, and in spite of the Pragmatic Sanction, he refused to recognize Maria Theresa, daughter of Charles VI, as heir to the Austrian States, and claimed to be entitled to the crown by virtue of a will of Emperor Ferdinand I. He was supported by France, and was able to claim the crown by virtue of a will of the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I. He was also able to claim the crown by virtue of a will of the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I. He was supported by France, and Louis XV's troops backed his coronation as Archduke of Austria in Linz, King of Bohemia in Prague, and finally Emperor in Frankfurt in 1742". This circular letter, published a year before his death, is a defense of his rights. Rare text.
