Paris, s.n., 1649. One fascicle. 14 by 19.5 cm. 8; 4 pages. Paperback, in later mute cover. Top of pages trimmed, but not missing. Short upper margin. Our copy contains the 1st part of this work attributed to RICHER, the author of the Ovide bouffon, by Frédéric Deloffre, and the title page and first 2 pages of the second part. This Mazarinade is a rare example of 17th-century Parisian language. "The interest of these plays is essentially philological: indeed, they feature the dialogue of two suburban peasants (Saint-Ouen and Montmorency) lamenting the misfortune of the times. From this charming mazarinade, Molière has drawn the language, characters and spirit of Charlotte and Pierrot, the peasants in Don Juan. Better still, he had one of his own actors, Brécourt, perform the Noces de village on his stage, adapted from the same Conférences. The effective disappearance of the true Parisian vernacular during the 18th century condemned them to deep oblivion".
