[Wine] DANFLOU (Alfred) Les grands crus bordelais. Monograph - Lot 39
[Wine] DANFLOU (Alfred) Les grands crus bordelais. Monographs and photographs of châteaux and vineyards Bordeaux, Librairie Goudin & typ. Aug. Lavertujon, s.d. [1867]. 2 volumes in-folio, publisher's half red chagrin, spines with flowered caissons, gilt titles and tomaisons, gilt titles on boards.VIII, 110 pp.; 106 pp. Skilful and discreet restorations to binding, usual brown spots, light spotting, browning. 55 albumen photographic prints mounted in a letterpress frame printed in red. Very rare second edition, partly original because considerably enlarged, of this work on the Médoc's great growths; the first edition of 1866 presented only 19 photographs, compared with 55 here, 29 in volume I and 26 in volume II. They show the châteaux and residences of each wine estate. This is the first book of its kind to feature original photographs. A complete copy of both parts: the first covers the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grands crus (Château-Lafitte, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Branne-Moutin, Cos-d'Estournel, Crû Lascombes, Saint-Exupéry, etc.), the second the 4th grands crus (Château-Lafitte, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Branne-Moutin, Cos-d'Estournel, Crû Lascombes, Saint-Exupéry, etc.).), the second, the 4th and 5th grands crus (Crû Millon-Duhart, Château-Saint-Pierre, Pontet-Canet, Mouton-d'Armailhacq, Lynch-Jurine, Haut-Bages, Pedesclaux, the great wines of Saint-Emilion, Cos-Lahaury, etc.). Two other parts, which were to be devoted to non-classified crus and "white vines", never saw the light of day.
