1981 - Mercedes-Benz 280 SL - Lot 58
1981 - Mercedes-Benz 280 SL French registration Chassis n°WDB10704210010677 Engine n°11098610004982 - An emblematic Mercedes type in its most versatile version - Car in an exceptional original condition - Less than 119500 km and manual gearbox - Many options and hard-top - Advantageous 4 seat version Succeeding the SL "Pagoda" type W113, the SL convertible type R107 is unveiled in spring 1971. It marks a break in style with the previous generation, without losing its hard-top always very elegant and so characteristic of this convertible of the brand with the star. It is also no longer completely in the spirit of Sport Leicht for "light sports car" of which SL is the abbreviation, since it is rather the philosophy Grand Tourism that prevails on this generation. Its excellent build quality, comfort and luxury explain its success, especially in the United States where it was a true symbol of success and had a great film and television career. During its life and as it became more and more successful, the SL R107 was constantly improved. In 1974, the in-line six-cylinder engine was reintroduced on the Mercedes convertible, to complete the range which had until then consisted exclusively of V8 engines (350 and 450 SL) on this generation. Both more accessible and less greedy in fuel for performances quite honourable, this variant in undoubtedly the most adapted for the driving "elbow to the door" for which is intended this Mercedes SL. The Mercedes 280 SL convertible type R107 presented is a magnificent example of this six-cylinder 2.8-liter version, in its most powerful version developing 185 horsepower, associated with a 4-speed manual gearbox. In brown "Moorbraun" (479), with a matching dark brown "Dunkelbraun" (8023) soft top, married to a brown and beige "stoff champignon" (035) interior, with vinyl and beige carpets, its contrasting presentation, with subtle reminders of the colors, is of the most beautiful effect. All the more so as the vehicle is in a remarkable state of preservation. Delivered new in Germany, the car would have belonged to a German car expert before its arrival in France in 2015. It has obviously always been carefully monitored and maintained, as the service booklet partially attests. Among other options such as central locking, power windows, radio, and central armrest, this 280 SL also has the very practical rear seat option, which makes it a four-seater. As an option, it also has an AMG spoiler. Its current 15-inch tires instead of the initial 14-inch ones, in addition to this accessory, give it a little extra sportiness. Compared to most other SL R107s, with just under 119500 km on the odometer, this one has reasonable mileage, especially considering the undisputed robustness of these cars. Its operation is optimal and the condition of its engine compartment, which is like the rest of the car, speaks for itself. Never repainted or restored, this is probably the most beautiful 280 SL type R107 in original condition currently available on the market. Delivered with its hard-top, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Especially when we see the growing interest of collectors for this model after the Pagoda as well as for cars in strict original condition.
