[Quran]. The Quran of Muhammad. Translated from the Arabic by André Du Ryer, Sieur de La Garde Malezair, with the translation of the “Historical and Critical Observations on Mohammedanism” included at the beginning of the English version by Mr. George Sale. Amsterdam and Leipzig, Arkstée & Merkus, 1775. 2 volumes in-12, contemporary marbled sheepskin, decorated ribbed spine. A few scattered foxing spots, three worn corners. New edition of André du Ryer’s famous translation, originally published in 1647. It is illustrated with one frontispiece depicting Muhammad surrounded by his followers and five folding plates: a large map of Arabia, three genealogical tables, and a view of the Kaaba accompanied by a plan of the building. From the library of Louis-Antoine Tenant de la Tour (1808–1882)—who served as librarian to King Louis-Philippe at the Palace of Compiègne—featuring an engraved heraldic vignette from his bookplate.
