LYON PLOT. Reports of the hearings. - Lot 267
LYON PLOT. Reports of the hearings. "The Lyon Conspiracy, also known as the Southeast Conspiracy, was a political conspiracy that went to trial in Lyon in 1851, in the final days of the Second Republic led by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte. The plot was based on a federation attempted by the republican left, led in particular by Vaucluse deputy Alphonse Gent, a member of the Montagne parliamentary group, in fourteen southeastern départements. The most prominent members of this association were condemned by the war council, with sentences ranging from deportation to the Marquesas Islands to imprisonment. However, many members of the association were not prosecuted, and a dozen defendants were also acquitted. The reality of the plot's threat is still open to question by historians, some of whom assume that the authorities of the time had overestimated the intentions of the Republicans, who would only have sought to reorganize their opposition following the day of June 13, 1849" (Wikipedia). Rare set of 22 supplements to the newspaper LE SALUT PUBLIC, reporting the debates in full, published between August 6 and August 29, 1851. 21 by 31 cm. Supplements of 2, 4 or 8 pages.
