ELUARD (Paul): amorous correspondence with Diane DERIAZ (Jea - Lot 84
ELUARD (Paul): amorous correspondence with Diane DERIAZ (Jeannine RAYMONDE). 12 signed handwritten letters or cartolines, one autographed photograph, and a paperback collection, Choix de Poèmes, with a fine mailing... Paul ELUARD met Diane DERIAZ (stage name of Jeannine RAYMONDE) in 1947-1948. At the time, he was deep in mourning for NUSCH, who had died suddenly in 1946. So he began to multiply his amorous encounters, in order to regain his taste for life. But it was Diane DERIAZ who stood out. Diane DERIAZ was an astonishing character. Born in 1927 in Saint-Leu into a family of wrestlers and weightlifters, Jeannine Raymonde learned the secrets of the trapeze at the age of eight, and was nicknamed the Shirley Temple of the trapeze. At 21 (1948), she joined the Pinder circus for two tours as part of the "Rainat's girls", performing an acrobatic trapeze act. In 1952, she took a break from the trapeze to take up women's wrestling, until a fall prevented her from pursuing her art. She continued in show business... She was also a great fan of poets, and had been since she was a teenager. One of her childhood friends, Myriam Larronde, died at an early age, and her friendship turned to her brother Olivier Larronde, a poet who introduced her to the "Surrealist" group, with whom she regularly rubbed shoulders. She met Jean Cocteau, Picasso, Max Ernst and Man Ray, who photographed her, not forgetting Paul Eluard, who was seduced by her beauty and fell deeply in love with her. Playwright Jacques Audiberti dedicated his play "Jeanne d'Arc" to her... She wrote her memoirs under the title: La Tête à l'envers. Souvenirs d'une trapéziste chez les poètes. The letters show the strength of Paul ELUARD's love affair, the doubts, torments and long waits, as well as the enchantments and blazes... He addressed them to Diane, Janine, Jeanine... He also spoke of his stay in Poland. In April 1948, Paul Éluard and Picasso were invited to take part in the Peace Congress in Wrocław, Poland. The photograph dedicated to "his friend Janine" is from a studio in Budapest, and the poem collection bears the dedication: A Janine, à Diane, à Saint-Leu, les trois grâces en un seul corps et deux cœurs, puisque elle a le mien. An exceptional and unique set. Enclosed: A telegram addressed to Janine DERIAZ, signed Hector MALOT (who died in 1907!), with a text that begins like a collection à la Prévert... And a postcard addressed to Paul ELUARD, memories of (illegible), dated 1950.
